The Layer 2 competition has narrowed — and that is good for users
The chart of active rollups looks less crowded than a year ago. The survivors have converged on a smaller set of design choices.

The survivors
A small number of general-purpose rollups now handle the vast majority of L2 volume. The proof systems have converged, the sequencer designs have converged, and the differences that remain are more about ecosystem than about architecture.
What that means for builders

- Less time evaluating which chain to deploy on
- More time on the product itself
- Easier hiring, because the tooling is the same across most targets
